Sorrel (Hibiscus) Drink Recipe

Sorrel, also known as dried hibiscus, is packed with many nutrients. It is known to help lower blood pressure, increase good cholesterol and may aid in weight loss. This drink is a staple in our family, especially in the summer and early autumn when the hibiscus plant sepals are harvested. We hope you enjoy this recipe!

Here are some pictures of our hibiscus during peak season, just ready for the picking!


4 cups of sorrel (Dried hibiscus flowers)
4 cinnamon sticks
2 tsp ground cinnamon powder
1 tbsp cloves
1 thumb of ginger, grated
2 gallons of water
2 cups of sugar (or honey)

  • Add water, sorrel, ginger, cloves cinnamon stick and ground cinnamon to the pot and bring it to boil.
  • Let contents in the pot steep for 1 hour.
  • Add sugar to sweeten. Add more to taste if preferred.
  • Let drink cool and serve with ice!
